About SYS

League Philosophy — SYS strives to provide a safe, fun family atmosphere which gives children the opportunity to meet other children in their community, develop self-confidence, and get healthy
exercise while learning to play soccer.

SYS Executive Board

  • President - Michael Taylor

  • Vice President - Jon Collins

  • Treasurer - Ted Foxworthy

  • Secretary - Jennifer Warren

Speedway Youth Soccer was founded in 1983. Its home fields are located adjacent to  Meadowood Park and Wheeler Elementary School.

We have two Recreation Divisions, U6 and U8.  In these divisions, our league is co-ed, meaning both boys and girls are on the same team. Once registered, the kids are placed on a team, joining 8 or so others. Practices and games are played at Wheeler Elementary. The cost for a U6/U8 player is $95, which includes $65 registration, $25 uniform (shirt, shorts, socks), and $5 participation fee (to
cover concessions). Shin guards are required and cleats are optional.

We also have Rec Plus divisions — U10, U12, U14, and High School. These teams play against other teams in the West Central Suburban Soccer Federation (wcssf.org), which include teams in western Marion County and Hendricks County. The games are more competitive than Rec, hence Rec "Plus." The cost is $135, which includes $85 registration, $45 uniform (shirt, shorts, socks), and $5 participation
fee (to cover concessions). Shin guards are required and cleats are recommended.

Our league also supports Travel soccer. The divisions available vary season-to-season according to registration. These teams are by invitation only (tryouts are conducted). Cost for Travel soccer is $155r, which includes $100 registration. $50 uniform (shirt, shorts, socks), and $5 participation fee (to cover concessions). Speedway's Travel players compete in the Central Indiana Youth Soccer League (CIYSL) boys' teams, and Greater Indiana Regional League of Soccer (GIRLS) girls' teams.

All of our coaches pass a background check and are certified by Indiana Youth Soccer (indianayouthsoccer.org), our governing organization. Additionally, they all complete a basic training class that the league runs for all coaches when they enter the league.

Policy Change
Participation trophies will no longer be presented to Rec Plus (U12 and above) or Travel Players. Players at these levels will only receive tournament trophies. Participation trophies will continue to be give to Recreational (U6-U8) and Rec Plus U10 players.

League Adopts No Smoking, No Pets Rules
Beginning with the Spring 2008 season, SYS has adopted new "No Smoking, No Pet" rules. The smoking rule is to bring the league in line with Wheeler being a "Drug Free Zone." This policy reinforces the fact that kids should not be around drugs, not even cigarettes. The No Pet ruling is the result of a number of complaints that players, especially smaller ones, were scared of the dogs populating the sidelines of SYS Fields. Your cooperation with these rules is required.
