Aislinn Shea Commits to Lynchburg College

Aislinn Shea of the 99 Girls team coached by Kevin Smith, has committed to play college soccer at Division III powerhouse Lynchburg College.   "Aislinn is a very fast goal scoring forward with great attacking skills, work rate, perseverance, and tactical insight.” Said Coach Smith, "Aislinn deserves all the credit for her development.  She has worked very hard on her fitness, strength, technical ability, and is now one of the elite players in the state of Virginia.”

Aislinn chose Lynchburg College for five specific reasons.  First, LC has a very successful Women’s Soccer program.  LC won the NCAA Divion III National Championship in 2014, currently is ranked 12th in the nation, and is among the very elite programs in the country. Second, Aislinn was very impressed by the very close relationship that the team and coaching staff have developed.  She states that “every player is extremely enthusiastic about the program and love playing soccer and attending LC.”  Third, LC has a very good nursing program and Aislinn plans to major in nursing and wants to pursue a career in neonatal nursing.  Fourth, the soccer program dedicates a tremendous amount of time doing service work in Africa and in Lynchburg.  Fifth, and maybe foremost, the coaching staff led by Coach Todd Olsen is passionate about the game of soccer, offers great emotional support to their players, and develops young ladies into powerful young women capable of accomplishing anything in their lives.

The Lynchburg College coaching staff is excited that Aislinn has chosen LC.  LC prides itself on recruiting Division I level soccer players to their program because they compete for national championships every season, have great fun playing the game they love, have the ability to pursue the most difficult of academic interests, and are able to help the less fortunate through their constant focus on service to others.  The staff was extremely impressed with Aislinn’s values and her soccer ability.  She participated in LC summer camp where the staff was able to demonstrate their coaching philosophy over several days.  Following camp, the coaches let her know that they thought she would be a perfect fit for the team both as a person and an extremely gifted soccer player.  In addition, the VB City FC 1999 Girls have played many college teams this fall and Aislinn and her teammates were able to demonstrate their abilities against some of the best players in the nation.  VB City FC’s game playing format has allowed its college bound soccer players to demonstrate their abilities against various college teams.  These competitive matches help VB City players see the steps they must take to compete at a higher level and provides a unique environment for college coaches to evaluate players.

Congrats Aislinn on a job well done!
